Star Trek Sequel (2013): Benedict Cumberbatch's Villain Role Revealed? (Spoiler)

Just yesterday it came out that Leonard Nimoy, and possibly William Shatner, may appear in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek sequel, and now more news has surfaced.
Before Abrams cast Benedict Cumberbatch as the villain, Benicio del Toro was in talks to play - reportedly - Khan.
Now TrekMovie has it that Benedict Cumberbatch will actually be playing the Star Trek 2 villain, Khan Noonien Singh, who was originally played by Ricardo Montalban.
They also state the J.J. Abrams Star Trek sequel will not be rehash of "Space Seed," which was the original 1967 Star Trek episode where The Enterprise and crew first encountered Khan and his fellow super men from the 1990s.
Now this is rather interesting development as set images have revealed Benedict Cumberbatch in a Star Fleet uniform fighting with Zachary Quinto's Spock. The original had Khan fighting Kirk, I believe, in an attempt to take over The Enterprise. As Abrams Star Trek is set in an alternate universe, just how much of Khan's original concept will stick?
TrekMovie also states that the Klingons may play a role in the new Star Trek as well.
The as-of-yet unnamed Star Trek sequel has a May 17th, 2013 release date in 3D, is directed by J.J. Abrams and stars Chris Pine as Capt. James T. Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Karl Urban as Leonard "Bones" McCoy, Zoe Saldana as Nyota Uhura, Simon Pegg as Scotty, Anton Yelchin as Pavel Chekov and John Cho as Hikaru Sulu.
