Star Trek 2 Details, Villains and Release Date Might Get Pushed Back

Paramount has set the Star Trek 2 release date for June 29, 2012; however, due to the creators involvements in recent projects, that date might get pushed back by six months to the 2012 Holiday season, according to Deadline.
J.J. Abrams is just finishing up with the alien sci-fi thriller, Super 8 (out June 10th) and writers Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof all have projects they are working on, as well.
In addition, there isn't even a script -- though there is a whopping 70 page outline, as Orci told Trekmovie.com, "Just been waiting for JJ to be free to really decide if he likes the story and hear his suggestions before we finish the script. Once he says go, we’ll have it in no time. Meanwhile, our outline is detailed enough (70+ pages!) to do some prep."
As Orci states, it is not even official that Abrams is signed on as director, but that should change soon as Orci goes on to state, "In the meetings we’ve had with JJ, he’s already given us amazing input and ideas, and that’s been while he’s been up to his eyeballs in Super 8."
As Deadline notes, we are about 13 months from that initial release date, and use of the outline for a script is similar to what Michael Bay did with Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen -- and we all know how that turned out!
Paramount actually pushed ahead Star Trek 2 for actor Chris Pine, and sidelined Pine's involvement in the new "Jack Ryan" reboot. Hopefully, the studios won't rush this.
Take your time guys, we can wait -- it's worth it!
There's also been "mention" of the possible villains for ST2, as Zoe Saldana (Uhura) mentioned to Empire Online what she would want in the sequel, "I can tell you for what I'd like to see happen [which is] for Spock and Uhura to really hook up, and for Uhura to kick some Romulan butt."
