Op-Ed: Why The Justice League Movie Can Do Better Than The Avengers Movie

Currently making its rounds around the blogosphere are some comments made by a Marvel Studios cronie that the Justice League Movie will not work because Warner Bros. did not build it up the way that Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige and Joss Whedon did with The Avengers.
And jumping on the bandwagon are all these other sites and blogs saying [Beavis voice] "Heh. Heh. He's right. The Justice League movie sucks."
The flaw in that argument is as follows.
Warner Bros. does not need to build up the Justice League — because it is the Justice League.
Marvel Studios did have to build up The Avengers because no one knew who Iron Man, Thor, Loki, Nick Fury, Black Widow and Hawkeye were.
It's really that simple.
And arguably, if we are to believe the Man of Steel rumors, Warner Bros. is already working toward a Justice League movie with the new Superman movie, as well as possibly Lobo (though with the departure of Joel Silver from WB, I'm not sure where Lobo stands).
Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman have been embedded in our society through - of course the comics - but the early television shows as well as movies, and not to mention the cartoons.
You can't say the same for the above mentioned Assemblers.
When it comes to animated series, Marvel Studios has nothing on Warner Bros. Likewise for video games.
Of course that doesn't mean we will get a great Justice League movie, but what it does it back up my point that the Justice League movie does not have to be "built up" — because it already has been.
Christopher Nolan's Batman movies already match The Avengers, and that's just Batman (more to it, but ya get my drift — right?).
And regarding Marvel's movies, arguably Iron Man 2, Captain America and Thor weren't really all that good. If they were, why were all the directors replaced? ... (yeah, right).
Granted I'll give you the Green Lantern movie tanked, but at least if they replace Ryan Reynolds for the Justice League movie we probably don't have to get a full-fledged origin. Really, all we would need is Aquaman and Martian Mahunter's origins, but again in the case of Aquaman, a majority of the public are at least familiar with him, than compared to say Tony Stark when Iron Man debuted.
Maybe when it comes down to it, it's like comparing Tony Stark to Bruce Wayne.
Nobody knew who The Avengers were.
Everybody knows who the Justice League is.
