Michael Rooker was a featured guest at the recent DragonCon with the actor having a major role as Yondu in the James Gunn-directed Guardians of the Galaxy movie.
Rooker participates in a QnA were he talks both Guardians of the Galaxy and The Walking Dead.
Regarding Guardians, Michael Rooker can't talk specifics but does tell the story behind the recent set images (below) featuring himself as a blue alien that seemingly crash landed. It turns out that as the cast arrived on set, the paparazzi were there waiting; however, Rooker states they were about 500 yards away and could hardly be seen, comparing them to Leprechauns. Rooker continues that when the images of Yondu were released online, he was quite surprised.
Rooker is also asked about the difference between working on an A-list movie and others, with the actor joking about the previous movies not being A-List? What Rooker is excited about is the fact that it's cool to see those who started out in independent films and are now working on a big-budget Disney Marvel film.
Commenting on comic books, Michael Rooker says James Gunn is a massive comic reader. Rooker also says what he likes about them was he thought superheroes and bad girls dressed really cool as well as learned to read through comics and "other magazines."
He also adds he is loving shooting in the UK, and Marvel flew down to talk to Rooker with the actor joking he still can't tell them anything.
Michael Rooker also evades questions about which comic book characters he would like to play, but offers:
"The more conflict the characters have the better I perform...the darker they are sometimes...these characters I enjoy can in the one minute rip your head off and toss it over, and then have a baby in the middle of the street. Those are the roles I enjoy. Anti-hero. You don't want to mess with, tough, but all of a sudden they pick up the baby kitten and save it. That kind of person, there is still a beautiful little light going on inside that shows itself every now and then."
"When I first got the role of Yondu, Gunn was like 'don't read any of the comics!' I said, 'I already read the comics, dude. What are you talking about.'"
