This weekend saw the opening of the highly anticipated flick, The LEGO Movie, and by all indications its a huge success as estimates have it coming in at close to a $70 million opening.
It seems The LEGO Movie was tracking so well previous to its release that Warner Bros. went ahead and greenlit a sequel.
Jared Stern and Michelle Morgan are set to write the script.
The LEGO Movie was most likely a guaranteed success as it brings a batch of favorite characters together on the big screen (Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, TMNT) and sports an all-star cast which includes Will Farrell, Liam Neeson, Morgan Freeman, Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Alison Brie, Will Arnett, Jonah Hill and Nick Offerman.
The 3D computer animated adventure tells the story of Emmet, an ordinary, rules-following, perfectly average LEGO minifigure who is mistakenly identified as the most extraordinary person and the key to saving the world. He is drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant, a journey for which Emmet is hopelessly and hilariously underprepared.
