The comic book preview issue of Total Film magazine is now available which has a featured article on Jesse Eisenberg, aptly titled "Breaking Bad," an obvious play on the said casting of Bryan Cranston as Lex Luthor.
However, this time it will be Eisenberg making people say his name.
The article reveals that Jesse Eisenberg doesn't read comic books and hasn't even watched comic book movies -- including the Christopher Nolan Batman movies. Eisenberg isn't even familiar with Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker, but it is noted when Eisenberg got the part of Lex Luthor in Batman Vs. Superman, he did read a bunch of comics with Lex in them as well as watch Gene Hackman's Luthor performance in the Donner Superman movie.
Eisenberg let it be known that Warner Bros. asked him to play the part of Lex Luthor previous to reading the script; however, Eisenberg noted he did get a chance to read it before deciding and really liked it.
"They asked me if I wanted to play the part before they sent me the script..." he said. "I'm not sure how it worked, but it's something I read with the understanding that I could do the role, if I... You know, they just don't hand the scripts out. But I really liked it on its own terms. I would do it if it was for free and it was tiny."
Eisenberg also goes on to comment about playing such a well known role; however, Eisenberg doesn't sound the least bit intimidated.
"I've been in things that have been popular before. To say, 'I can't do that which will appear in thousands of theaters on opening day, but I can do this which will appear in this amount of theaters... It's arbitrary," he said. "I realize how popular comic book movies are, and now, working on one, I realize why they're popular - the story is really good, the dialogue is really good, the artistry behind every department is high, the acting is really good. So if they're all put together with that level of quality..."
Eisenberg finally clues in on how he will portray his Lex Luthor, which Total Film speculates will be a "curve ball" take on the character akin to Ledger's Joker performance.
"There are some indications of how the character should behave based on the script, and then an actor makes it his or her own," he said. "I got to know one of the writers really well, Chris Terrio, and we were able to discuss things at length and figure out who this person is to create a real psychology. I can only say I've been asked to play an interesting role: a complicated, challenging person."
"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" has a March 25, 2016 release starring Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Ray Fisher as Cyborg with Callan Mulvey, Holly Hunter and Tao Okamoto in new character roles for the film. Justice League is to follow directed by Zack Snyder as well.
