It's said that James Franco makes an appearance in the upcoming Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, which is a sequel to the sleeper hit from 2011, Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

The fate of Franco's character, Will Rodman, is also revealed.

So here's the spoiler warning.

The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly states that Will Rodman died as of a result of the virus, The Simian Flu. If you recall at the end of the movie, it showed the virus spreading throughout the globe.

IGN also spoke with producer Dylan Clark who offered that James Franco was supposed to die in the first film, and that they even filmed it, but decided against using it. Clark says Will Rodman was located at "ground zero of the virus."

The EW article adds that the "plague has wiped out Will -- in addition to much of humanity."

Regarding James Franco's appearance in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, EW says it's a "posthumous cameo that appears via video."

They even mentioned it to Franco, who says he had no idea about it.

"Wait? I have a cameo? I didn't know that. You know, I don't think they even used my permission to do that."

"Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" has a July 11, 2014 release starring Gary Oldman, Kerri Russell, Jason Clarke, Kodi-Smit McPhee, Judu Greer and Andy Serkis.

Synopsis:

A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth's dominant species.
