I seem to recall some of the haters out there comparing Guardians of the Galaxy, when it was first announced, to the Green Lantern movie.

Well, Guardians of the Galaxy has surpassed Green Lantern's total domestic box office draw in only five days and will probably blow by GL's worldwide total in a week.

Green Lantern netted a domestic total of $116.6 million back in 2011.

Guardians of the Galaxy in its first five days of opening took in about $118 million.

Currently, Guardians of the Galaxy has a $126.7 million domestic gross, with another $66.4 million coming from international audiences giving it a total of around $193.15 million.

Green Lantern totalled about $220 million for its entire worldwide showing.

More than likely with yesterday and today's Guardians of the Galaxy box office performance added in, the James Gunn-directed movie will outperform Green Lantern's entire run in about a week.

Not bad.

Marvel and Disney also announced a Guardians of the Galaxy sequel before the movie even premiered.
