pic We finally get some confirmation about a potential sequel to the, shall we say, less than stellar debut of Green Lantern, which saw a $53 million opening.

And we learn that not only will the sequel be a bit more action packed - but also will be minus director Martin Campbell.

Warner Bros. President Jeff Robinov mentions the difference in direction.

“We had a decent opening so we learned there is an audience,” Robinov told the LA Times Hero Complex, “To go forward we need to make it a little edgier and darker with more emphasis on action…. And we have to find a way to balance the time the movie spends in space versus on Earth.”

From there, the article gets particulary interesting as Robinov is no longer quoted, but "several people familiar with the thinking of executives there who were not authorized to speak."

Among the goodies present:

There is an outline for "Green Lantern 2" already completed by Greg Berlanti, Michael Green and Marc Guggenheim, who all worked on the original script. However, the Times states the "people" close to the exectives say Warner Bros. will most likely make significant changes to that or a even start over.

It is stated that a definite change the execs want is a change in director. "Warner Bros. was not thrilled with the work of 'Green Lantern' director Martin Campbell, the people said, and would likely seek a new director for a sequel should one go into production." To add to that, there is a clause in Cambell's contract for the option to do the sequel, so the Studio would need to accomodate him in some way.

The article switches gears and returns to Roboniv with mention of The Flash and Justice League movies.

"Robinov said the studio has 'a solid script' for the Scarlet Speedster. The executive also remains interested in bringing DC heroes together for a 'Justice League' movie."
