When George Lucas sold Star Wars to Disney for $4.05 billion, he wasn't totally out of the picture as it came out that Lucas would still be attached in a "consultant" role.
We now get more on what exactly that means, and according to Lucas himself, it's not much.
"[If the filmmakers ask], ‘Who’s this guy?’ I can tell them. I mean, they have a hundred encyclopedias and things, but I actually know a lot. I can say, ‘This is this and this is that,'" Lucas told Access Hollywood. "Basically I’m not — I don’t really have much to do."
Friend of Lucas, Kathleen Kennedy, will be overseeing Star Wars for Disney. Michael Arndt has already been brought on as a screenwriter for Star Wars Episode VII, and it's rumored that Empire Strikes Back writer Lawrence Kasdan, and Simon Kinberg (Sherlocke Holmes), are on board in some capacity as well. As Episode VII has a 2015 release date, a director should be named some time soon.
Speaking of directors, Lucas laughed at the notion of his longtime friend, Steven Spielberg, helming one of the Star Wars movies.
"I’m pretty sure he’d never want to do that!” Lucas said. “I don’t think he’d want to.”
