picChristopher Meloni, who recently departed Law & Order: SVU, is said to be in a role as a possible co-star in Zack Snyder's Superman reboot, the Man Of Steel.

The role is not known, but Meloni would be joining the likes of Henry Cavill, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Russel Crowe and Julia Ormond.

Meloni also recently voiced Hal Jordan in the animated Green Lantern: First Flight.

Any ideas what role Meloni could be playing? Maybe General Lane's #2?

Update: NYMag.com reports they spoke to Meloni earlier in the week who told them he is playing a General, but wouldn't tell them more when pressed "I can't tell you, or I'd have to kill you."

Meloni, 50 years of age, might be too young to play General Lane - with Amy Adams, playing Lois Lane (ie daugher), who turns 37 this August. As I stated above Meloni could be the #2 man, - or simply General Lane isn't in the movie with Meloni filling that role.

Update: Meloni is Colonel Hardy

Stay tuned to Cosmic Book News as more on the Man Of Steel develops.
