5486 Earlier today, director James Gunn tweeted that he was off to London for 9 months, which can only be for the Marvel Studios Guardians of the Galaxy movie.

Now on top of that we get the first casting announcement (via Deadline) with Chris Pratt for the lead role of Peter Quill, Star-Lord.

Chris Pratt, who wasn't amongst one of the dozen names rumored for the roll, is presently featured on the Parks and Recreation TV series and recently starred in Zero Dark Thirty and Moneyball.

An early description for the Guardians of the Galaxy movie revealed that it was "about a U.S. pilot who ends up in space in the middle of a universal conflict and goes on the run with futuristic ex-cons who have something everyone wants."

Disney also revealed an early synopsis with, "Guardians of the Galaxy, based on the Marvel comic books of the same name, features an unlikely cast of characters who must team up in order to defeat a cosmic force of epic proportions."

See below for more of Chris Pratt.

The Guardians of the Galaxy movie opens August 1, 2014 directed by James Gunn.

Who is Chris Pratt?

Glad you asked.

Pratt is a 33-year-old actor that was born in Virgina, Minnesota and went on to grow up in Lake Stevens, Washington. Eventually he ended up in Hawaii where he was discovered while waiting tables and was cast in Cursed 3. He would get his big break with Everwood, playing Harold Brighton "Bright" Abbott, and then on to the O.C. as Che.

Pratt's co-star in Everwood, Emily Van Camp, was just named the lead role in Captain America 2, "The Winter Soldier."

In Moneyball, Chris Pratt starred alongside Brad Pitt, as the new first baseman, Scott Hatteberg, who was afraid to get the ball hit to him.

Pratt played the Navy Seal, Justin, in Zero Dark Thirty, in which he added 40-50 lbs of muscle for the role.
