It turns out that the announcement of the Disney acquisition of Star Wars got The Avengers director, Joss Whedon, so excited that he considered directing the next movie, "Episode 7," due out in 2015.

However, Joss Whedon immediately realized his duties to Marvel Studios with The Avengers 2, the upcoming ABC S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series as well as having to give his two cents to the other Marvel Studios film properties.

Who knows? Maybe Whedon could still get his chance to direct Star Wars as two more are said to be in the works, with Episodes 8 & 9, as well as a bunch of spin-offs.

Whedon told CNN:

I'm as angry as you should be. When I heard that I was like, 'I wonder... no, I really can't do that. Oh, I already have a job.' I wouldn't clear the Avengers. I'm having so much fun with that sequel right now, just with the script, that I couldn't imagine not doing it.

We also see that Whedon does, indeed, have his own ideas for Star Wars, so there's still hope.

Oh I've got a lot of things. Where's my list I'm carrying on me? But you know, I'd like to see a little edge. We all missed the Han [Solo] of it. It got very portentous, which was justified by the story, but I think we'd all like to see a little anarchy in the mix."

The Avengers 2 assembles May 1, 2015 with Iron Man 3 on May 3, 2013, Thor: The Dark World on November 8, 2013, Captain America: Winter Soldier on April 4, 2014, the Guardians of the Galaxy movie on August 1, 2014 and Ant-Man on November 6, 2015..
