When The Avengers 2 hits net next year, audiences will see a darker movie filled with more sci-fi.
Director Joss Whedon spoke with Total Film magazine describing the movie akin to what Francis Ford Copolla did with the Godfather films.
"The model I'm always trying to build from is The Godfather: Part II, where a ton has happened in between and it's a very different movie, but you don't need any information," Whedon said. "You're in the vernacular of the first movie and you're ready to just pick up in this new place. It's got a sci-fi element to it that's stronger than the other film. And it's a little bit darker. Getting the team together was so rousing, but keeping the team together is a completely different problem..."
"Everything is ramped up," added Chris Hemsworth, who will be back as Thor in Age of Ultron. "It blew me away. I don't know how Joss does it, but everyone has gone up another notch. He's a genius."
Whedon then mentioned that Scarlett Johansson and other characters not featured in their own movies will get a lot of attention.
"Natasha is a huge part of the sequel," Whedon said. "You want to concentrate on the people who don't have their own franchises."
"It's fun and exciting and has all that flashy stuff, but people can expect that gravity this time around," Johansson stated.
Regarding those other characters, it recently became known that War Machine will play an important role in The Avengers 2, we also got a look at both Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson on the set and a description of Scarlet Witch's powers.
"The Avengers: Age Of Ultron" hits May 1, 2015 directed by Joss Whedon starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson, Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch, Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Quicksilver, Paul Bettany as Vision, with James Spader as Ultron.
